This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.
