The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the writers' room opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
