Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”

He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
