Seamer Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Problems.
'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.
The English seamer increased the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.
Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.
Team management indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "during the day".
The concluding match of the tour in Sydney starts this coming Sunday.
The visitors have previously lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman to a side strain on this Ashes tour.
A replacement bowler was brought into the squad to provide backup.
His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.
He was dropped from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.
Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman among just a trio of teammates who passed ten runs.
Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back for the second day's play and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
However, towards the conclusion of his spell, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and promptly felt for his hamstring.
Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission of the third.
