Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
