Fans Call for Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who jumped a barricade and seized the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the individual from Australia bypassing camera operators and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Many supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another response on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted event staff at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it started.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two very different witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received 10 Oscar nominations, earning two for outstanding attire and production design.
