Ideally, they'd want an Ashes series in Australia where they retain a possibility to win back the Ashes after the first three Tests.

Unfortunately, this scenario is off the table on this occasion, however, after the hosts' dominant triumph in Adelaide left the home side with a 3-0 lead for the fourth straight contest on home turf.

The loyal traveling fans, the vocal contingent, have 3,000 fans traveling for the last two matches in the SCG and MCG.

Furthermore, other tour groups who will be vacationing in Australia, as well as relatives and companions heading for a special expedition.

The Ryding Siblings

Four fans named Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie are among those affected.

The four siblings had their itineraries and entry credentials secured for the fourth and fifth Tests "well ahead of time", hoping to witness a rare England series success.

Instead, they have watched Australia defeat England convincingly in just under two weeks from their residence in their hometown.

"All my colleagues has been making comments that the series is done for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"Our expectation had been that we would have something to play for still when we got there."

Lowered Expectations

There was plenty of positivity regarding the team's prospects of breaking a 15-year drought for a triumph on Australian soil prior to the first ball.

Yet now they are facing the prospect of prolonging a streak without victory in the country to 19 games when the next match starts in the MCG on Christmas Day.

Ben Stokes' side - and their fans - will be desperate to avoid a dreaded 5-0 scoreline.

One sibling noted the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in recent years had "brought fresh energy to" the five-day game for followers of the team.

However, the group said they had low expectations for the remaining matches - and all they are hoping for from the players is "some resilience".

"Every pundit points it out, but it all is about mental resilience. 'Bazball' has been turned into a buzzword now that is just, like, impractical batting," stated Rory Ryding.

"During a long match, you should dig in. Chasing balls 'wide of off stump has never been in the textbooks, and that is primarily due to the top order."

The Remaining Matches

Asked whether he believed England will triumph in a Test in this Ashes series, came the reply: "It appears the hosts are a stronger side at the moment."

"Necessarily, there must be more than one player that delivers for the team and makes a big impact."

Even with the series lost, the fans are anticipating the trip.

"It will be a fantastic experience anyway," said Katie. "We have to go with that mindset."

"Naturally, it's disappointing we can't contest the series, but we have invested a significant amount by now."

"We will make the most of celebrating the holidays in Australia. It is also our first experience away from home during the festive period."

A schoolteacher, Katie is determined to make the most of the long-haul travel as part of her Christmas holidays.

"As a backup plan, I can play golf to rely on," Katie concluded.
